EA/SecuROM Lawsuits Continue

You may or may not have heard about lawsuits popping up, related to EA's recent DRM issues. Last month two new class-action lawsuits were filed against Electronic Arts in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Again, it concerns EA's utilization of SecuROM digital rights management.

According to GamePolitics, one suit, filed by Richard Eldridge of Pennsylvania, is related to SecuROM inclusion in the Spore Creature Creator Free Trial Edition. Richard specified that SecuROM cannot be completely uninstalled and that there were no warnings about the DRM in the EULA.

Another suit is from a Sims player (oh well...). Dianna Cortez of Missouri claims SecuROM caused major issues, which could only be resolved by reformatting her system. She accused EA of "unfair business practices."

Bad publicity people. This SecuROM business was clearly a bad move by EA. It's only a matter of time until more of these lawsuits surface.
